Services for foreign students

You’re planning to study in Austria and will be coming here for the first time? And your German’s not that good yet? And you’re not quite sure how you’ll get your bearings and organize all the necessary stuff yourself? We’ll be happy to help you with our additional services for foreign students!

Your room is waiting for you

Already know which dormitory fits you best?

Go ahead and register!

OUR SERVICES FOR YOU

We want to provide you with special support in the initial phase of your studies in Austria – so you can be sure everything will go off without a hitch where you’re going to study, so you won’t have to waste any time or energy, and so you can begin your studies without having to deal with any extra hurdles. You can take advantage of these additional services for a one-time charge of EUR 500 incl. VAT.

AIRPORT PICKUP

We’ll take care of getting you from the airport to your ÖJAB dorm.

MOVE-IN AT YOUR ÖJAB DORM

We’ll make it possible for you to move into the ÖJAB dorm you’ve booked not just during office hours, but any time you want – even on the weekend. Regardless of the day or time of day, an ÖJAB employee will get you officially moved in right when you arrive. They’ll give you your room keys and help you fill out all the necessary forms, and they’ll also give you a tour of your new dormitory along with tips for a carefree stay.

RESIDENT REGISTRATION

We’ll help you take care of getting yourself registered. As a rule: everyone in Austria must register their place of residence with the local registration office within three days, whereupon they’re given an official residence document. This document (the Meldezettel) is the prerequisite for completing the rest of the mandatory administrative procedures.

UNIVERSITY ENROLLMENT

We’ll help you register for your German course. And afterwards, you’ll need to enroll in the university where you’ll be studying. An ÖJAB employee will support you here, as well, so that you don’t lose time unnecessarily.

REGISTRATION FOR COMPULSORY GERMAN COURSES

If your institution requires you to complete preliminary coursework (such as a German course) to be admitted to your program of study, an ÖJAB employee will help you register for one.

PURCHASING YOUR SEMESTER TICKET FOR LOCAL PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

We’ll help you buy your semester ticket for Wiener Linien, which runs Vienna’s public transportation network. Your confirmation of enrollment, your German course registration confirmation (if needed), and your residence document will enable you to purchase a discounted semester ticket for public transportation. This semester ticket entitles you to use all forms of public transportation – including the subway (U-Bahn), tram, bus, and the regional rail (S-Bahn) system – within the Vienna city limits. Semester tickets currently cost EUR 75,00 and are valid for 5 months each (winter semester: 1 Sep. to 31 Jan.; summer semester: 1 Feb. to 30 Jun.).

STATUTORY HEALTH INSURANCE REGISTRATION

We’ll support you in registering for statutory health insurance coverage. As a student, you are obligated to purchase health insurance from the local statutory health insurance provider. In order to do so, you’ll need confirmation of enrollment at your institution, confirmation of registration for your German course, and your passport. Having such health insurance is necessary in order to receive your residence permit from the issuing authority (in Vienna: MA 35). When you go to register, an ÖJAB employee will accompany you and help you every step of the way.

PICKING UP YOUR RESIDENCE PERMIT / VISA

We’ll help you pick up your residence permit / visa from the responsible authority; in Vienna, this is Municipal Administrative Department (MA) 35. After you’ve gone through all the steps listed thus far, you’ll also have to pick up your credit card-format residence permit for students from the relevant visa authority (in Vienna: MA 35). Here, as well, an ÖJAB employee will accompany you and provide you with support whenever needed.

SUPPLEMENTARY GERMAN COURSE AT ÖJAB

In addition to your compulsory German course (see point 4), we offer a supplementary course that will expand upon and add depth to what you’re learning – which will help you prepare for the required exam and make sure that you have a truly solid foundation in German. And to make sure you don’t lose time unnecessarily, we additionally offer an in-depth German course that you can take simultaneously with your obligatory preliminary coursework at the university. And finally, it’s also possible for you to attend a crash course to prepare for your exam. These courses aren’t included in the fee for our standard services for foreign students and are billed separately.

BOOK OUR SERVICES FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS

You can book these service offerings in addition to your place at an ÖJAB dormitory. To do so, just click on the field that reads “Additional Services for Foreign Students” when you book your dorm accommodations online. (At present, these services are only offered for new residents of dormitories in Vienna.)
