Experiential Education methods for a more sustainable everyday life

5R4Future focusses on teaching young people ways and strategies towards a more sustainable everyday life with the use of Experiential Education methods.

To create a connection between the young generation and the environment, it is important that nature becomes "tangible" for them. Therefore, the 5R4Future - Camp will take place in nature. There, young people will have the opportunity to learn about the 5R concept (refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, red). Each principle will be connected with activities and playful learning methods. To create a safe space, this will be complemented by Bruce Perry's principles - relational (safe), relevant (tailored to the individual's development), repetitive (patterns), rewarding (enjoyable), rhythmic (in harmony with natural patterns), respectful.

Um eine Verbindung zwischen der jungen Generation und der Umwelt zu schaffen, ist es wichtig, dass die Natur für sie „erfahrbar“ wird. Deshalb wird das 5R4Future - Camp in der Natur stattfinden. Junge Menschen werden dort die Möglichkeit haben, das 5R Konzept (refuse, reduce, reuse, recycle, rot) kennenzulernen. Jedes Prinzip wird mit Aktivitäten und interaktiven Lernmethoden verbunden. Um einen kollektiven Safe Space zu kreieren, wird dies durch die Grundsätze von Bruce Perry ergänzt - relational (sicher), relevant (auf die Entwicklung des Einzelnen abgestimmt), sich wiederholend (Muster), belohnend (angenehm), rhythmisch (im Einklang mit natürlichen Mustern), respektvoll.

Project objectives

The project aims at:

Giving young people from socio-economically disadvantaged background the opportunity to experience nature
Encouraging young people to apply ecological behaviour in their everyday lives
Improving ecological know-how, personal and social skills
Encouraging youth workers and trainers to adopt the 5R methodology and use EE (experiential education) methods
Strengthening cross-border encounters and engagement among young people

Project target groups

The target groups are:

Young people between 13 and 17 years
Young people who experience/have experienced socio-economic disadvantage(s)
Trainers, youth workers and social workers

Project partners: Austria (coordinator), Hungary

Project duration: March 2023 – February 2024
